About Nick Bennett and Grass Roots Consulting

Grass Roots Consulting is one aspect of Nick Bennett's professional life, serving as an informal identity through which he provides consulting and development services. When GRC was started by Jen Bennett in 1995, the core of the business was professional training in multimedia authoring and development. Since then, the portfolio of services offered has expanded to include a wide range of design, development, training, and multimedia production services.

Currently, Nick's work is focused on three primary areas:

  • Training content management and delivery systems

GRC was an early innovator in the development of multimedia software for training. However, as the training content needed by its clients became broader in scope, and needed to expand and change ever more rapidly, the focus shifted to the development of software platforms which could respond to that need. These include curriculum-oriented multimedia content management tools, and delivery tools for presenting up-to-the-minute multimedia content to the user — complete with assessment and evaluation features for tracking progress and completion.

  • Multi-tier web applications for service and process monitoring

These are applications which integrate and span low-level monitoring protocols (such as SNMP), higher-level communications protocols (such as SMTP and SOAP), and infrastuctural services and business-specific systems — all to help businesses keep the critical services they provide to their employees and clients up and running.

  • Tutorial materials in modeling and simulation

Since 2002, Nick has been extensively involved in science education programs in New Mexico. As part of this involvement, he's building an expanding library of tutorial materials for students learning to program in NetLogo, Java, and R, and on specific science topics.

Of course, Nick is always on the lookout for interesting, challenging projects — even if they don't fit neatly into the above categories. If you have a project, and would like to find out what Nick/Grass Roots can do for you, please don't hesitate to get in touch with via the Contact page, or through e-mail.
